This is a common phrase used to clarify if you have done something wrong or strange. The other person will answer with yes or no so it may be necessary for you to ask more questions. I hope that this helps. :)
When you see you have said something strange (for example, saying "good morning" at night or calling someone a different person's name), and the person you are talking to is looking at you with a confused face, you want to ask if you said something strange. You use on of the above suggestions.
Did I say anything strange?
I said something strange, didn't I?
Sorry, don't worry about it.
Confuse' means 'to mistake something for something else.' 'Was it something I said?' is like asking if something you just said has elicited the confused response from the person.
'Was it something I said?'
I'm sorry for confusing you because I said something strange.
I said something weird, didn't I?
When your expression is strange or weird, you can tell from the other person's expression on their face that what you said sounded weird to them.
In a situation like that, you can check with the other person by asking them using any of the three sentences. All three sentences will let the other person know that you could sense in the way they looked at you or responded to your statement, that what you said didn't sound right to them.
*sense - understanding
If you want to find out if you said something strange, you can use the following sentences when talking to someone:
"What's wrong?"
"Did I say something strange?"
"Why are you looking at me strangely?"
"Did I say something strange?"(私、何か変なこと言いましたか)
"Why are you looking at me strangely?"(何でそんな顔しているの?)
