床屋さんの場面で、「全体的に髪をすいてください」
髪の量を少なくしたいけど、長さはここままに残したいという意味ですね。
英語なら：
I would like you to reduce the volume of my hair, but keep the length the same.
Please thin out my hair, but keep the length the same.
「全体的」の言葉を抜きましたけど、上記に文章で床屋さんがそういう意味をわかります。入れたいなら、"all over" に入れます。

これはカナダで初めて英語しか通じない美容院なる所へ行って、変な汗をかきながら＆緊張しながらも何とか「美容院業界語（？）」を聞けた（教えてくれた）ので鮮明に覚えています。 基本的には thin out で「髪をすく」ので全体的にすく事を意味します。 部分的にすきたい場合の時に、Could you thin out top/(both) sides/back a bit? で、その梳きたい部分を表現します。
最後につく a bit は少しだけという意味ですが、thin out が「梳いてる」＝ボリュームを減らしているので、ただ単に表現として "ある" と思ってください。 言っても言わなくてもＯＫですが、何となくつけてしまいます（＾＾；）
laterは「後で」なので、全体的に髪を切っている間に会話が途切れてヘアスタイルにチョットだけやって欲しいというような時に使ってください。 だからといって now とは言いません。 now を付けてしまうと「今すぐにやってよ！」というように聞こえてしまいますので、ご注意を(^^)/

We get so used to our "image" , we can hardly bear to change it drastically!
Sometimes we might find the style we have is looking great; except perhaps
our hair has gotten" too heavy" or become too "thick" ;-)
In this case we can ask for trimming and thinning...
(using thinning scissors with only cute some hairs but not all)

いつもの”image"（イメージ）に慣れてしまい、なかなか思い切って髪型を変えることが出来ないですよね。
時に髪型は気にいっているが、重くなったるする場合があります。
そのような場合はトリミングや梳いてもらえばよいでしょう。（全体ではなく一部だけすきバサミで）

A trim is just the ends taking off - the ends of your hair - but no real length will be lost.
When we have our hair thinned out it means we don't want our hair to be as thick or have as much volume.
Be sure to tell them you don't want to lose any length.

we have our hair thinned out というと、髪の厚みを減らしたいとか量を減らしたいという意味です。

Both sentences are clearly indicating that you only want the volume to be less and that the hair length to be the same. The other person should clearly understand you when you use any of the two sentences.
