遠足や修学旅行をschool tripまたはschool excursionと言います。僕がいた学校でもスキー旅行やビーチへ遠足に行きましたがそれをschool tripと言ってました。日本みたいに旅行しつつ学ぶというよりは100%楽しむだけでしたが。

Field tripは日本の学校でやるような修学旅行です。クラスや学年などと行動して、何かしら学んで帰る構図です。
Excursionは学校でなくてもいいですし、特に何か学んで帰るのが前提でなくでもいいです。いつものルーティンから外れて大勢でどかかへ行く、と言った感覚です。
例えば私が学生の頃はfield tripで美術館や科学館などへ行き、夏休み前は学年でディズニーランドまでexcursionとして行っていました。
修学旅行であれば、school trip や field trip と表現できます。
日本の修学旅行にあたる行事がない国や地域もあるかと思いますので、修学旅行という習慣が何なのかを説明してあげると日本の文化に馴染みのない方にもすっきりと理解してもらえるかもしれませんね。

Field trip and school trip are used to describe a vacation or trip with the school. In America, there is not a particular expression to describe the length of the trip if it is more than one night.
If it is just one night stay we call it an overnight field trip.
But if it is more than one night we can say "The students will be going on a 3-night field trip".

A school or class trip indicates that you are traveling somewhere with your whole class or part of your school. Growing up we used "field trip", and during my senior year of high school we had a "senior trip" which consisted of our whole senior class.
